A Case study

CodeChamp

A social site for competitive programmers. Users write and discuss articles, or challenge each other to one-on-one battles on Codeforces problems.

CodeChamp’s home page, with buttons to start a battle, read articles and join the community.

What it does

  • Battles. The problem list comes from the Codeforces API. A user invites another to a problem, the invite appears in the recipient’s notification menu, and after accepting, both solve it on a shared battleground and see the result.
  • Judge page. Runs a C++ submission against test cases stored with the app, through the OneCompiler API.
  • Articles. Create, edit and delete articles with images, tags and a rich-text editor. Full-text search, likes, threaded comments, and a trending sidebar ranked by likes, comments and recency.
  • Profiles. Editable profiles with avatar and cover images, and following.

Limits

Battle submissions and result lookups go through a separate local judging service, which isn’t in the repository. The app is not deployed.
